Cheers to National Spritz Day
Pinch and a punch, it’s the first day of the month on Friday, and I think you know how National Spritz Day would like you to spend it. Download the Greene King pubs app for £3 Aperol Spritzes at various pubs around the capital, Simmons bars are offering similarly cheap spritzes and Walthamstow’s Big Penny Social is putting on a whole day-long spritz-themed event. Try one of this summer’s trending spritzes, the Hugo Spritz, with elderflower cordial, prosecco, mint and soda water, a Limoncello Spritz or be extra classy with a trip to Bar Italia in Soho for a Cynar Spritz, which has a Coca-Cola vibe to it.
Have some rosé on a fabulous rooftop
Encourage the weather back with a glass of Château La Coste rosé in hand on Ham Yard hotel’s rooftop. The swish Soho hotel’s sky-high garden has been given a Provençal makeover, with olive trees, seasonal flowers and lavender and rosemary. Expect seasonal French cooking and olive oil ice cream.
See an important movie about dogs
Dogspiracy isn’t the fluffiest of watches – it’s about puppy smuggling, and the darker side of the puppy trade industry. The doc follows one campaigner’s journey to uncover the exploitative side of the puppy trade. It’s showing in select UK cinemas from Friday 1 August.
Go to the new Titanic exhibition
The Dock X event space a few minutes’ walk from Canada Water Tube is hosting a new immersive Titanic exhibition. Honestly, large parts of it are pretty average, but stick around for the second virtual reality experience, which takes you on a really impressive tour throughout the inside and outside of the Titanic. That part is pretty incredible, even if the tone of the whole exhibition feels pretty off (you can buy whistles to attract attention in the gift shop….)
Watch the shocking new Bonnie Blue doc
Porn star Bonnie Blue claims she slept with over a thousand men as a publicity stunt. She is the subject of this new Channel 4 documentary. It contains some fairly shocking scenes, and whether or not it should have been made is questionable, but putting the bigger conversations aside, it’s certainly a compelling watch – and a conversation starter. Read City AM’s review of the “compelling but dangerous” documentary.
Sinners Shoreditch
Dancers from Ru Paul’s Drag Race live shows and the Olympics opening ceremony are performing at new Shoreditch restaurant and cabaret bar called Sinners. By day, the venue is offering co-working and more of a cafe vibe, and by night, 3, 5 and 7-course menus and the live show.
Book a show at the Camden Fringe
The Camden Fringe kicks off today with thousands of shows taking over venues in Camden and Angel and further afield. New for 2025 is a Shakespearean ‘festival within a festival’. It’s a great bet if you can’t make it up to the Edinburgh Fringe but still want a dose of spontaneous culture. If you’re looking for something new to do in London this weekend, pop down and make a decision on what to see when you rock up – for most of the shows there’s no need to book ahead of time. Find out more information about shows to book here.
