Two bodies have been found on day three of a search for six missing people following the sinking of a super yacht on Monday off the coast of Sicily.
A yacht carrying UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch, Morgan Stanley International Bank chair Jonathan Bloomer, and Clifford Chance’s Chris Morvillo sunk at 5am on Monday.
The vessel, known as the Bayesian, capsized off the coast of Palermo, the capital of the Italian island of Sicily.
The boat was carrying 22 people, of which 15 have been rescued by the Italian Coast Guard and the Italian Fire and Rescue Services.
The body of a man, later confirmed to be boat’s chef Recaldo Thomas, was found on Monday morning.
Since then, the rescue teams have been sent out to search the sunken vessel for the remaining six people who were still missing.
Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, as well as Bloomer; his wife, Judy Bloomer; and Morvillo; and his wife, Neda Morvillo are the six still missing.
According to Italian media La Repubblica, the bodies of two people have now been recovered – it has not been confirmed who the individuals are.
On Tuesday, the fire brigade Vigili del Fuoco said on X that early inspections of the wreck were “unsuccessful” due to limited access to the bridge and furniture obstructing passages. They noted that “the entrance to the yacht is complex, planning is underway to open easier accesses and inspect the interior [translated from Italian].”
